Let’s Go Skiing

I’m not much on skiing but I have a lot of friends that love to go skiing every winter up here in New York State. Some of them head to the Hunter Mountain Skiing lodge in Hunter, New York and others just stay around the Upstate New York area and hit any of the half dozen or so ski hills we have up here. A lot of my single guy friends like to go meet girls skiing which is of no use to me because I have already found my little snow bunny and don’t need to do any more searching.

Some of my friends take the family skiing on an annual trip to the slopes in Upstate New York or any of the other popular skiing parts of the United States like Wyoming or Colorado. While I have not done any skiing in my life I have been to a few ski resorts in my day and I can tell you that they are a beautiful place to spend a vacation. The best part about going to a ski resort is that you don’t need to go skiing to have a good time there. I love the winter and I love to ice skate and go sledding and you can do all of that at any ski resort you visit. They actually take sledding one step further at ski resorts and offer something called tubing. Tubing is when you go down the hill in an inflated rubber inner-tube instead of a sled. It is the same kind of inner-tube you would use in a pool. The ones that used to come from the inside of tires but now, since tires don’t use inner-tubes anymore, they just make inner-tubes for the water and the ski slopes. Tubing is actually a lot of fun but there is no way to hold on to the tube when you hit a bump and, because it is inflated rubber, when you hit a bump you are rocketed into the air. So when you go tubing always be on the look out for a soft place to land.

I used to know a family that would go cross country skiing every year and it helped them stay in great physical condition. Cross country skiing is probably the most difficult winter activity there is and it is too much like a job for me to try it. But I know that the people that regularly engage in cross country skiing are usually in top physical condition and have a tolerance for really boring activities. I’m just kidding. It is more out of jealousy because I know I am a skiing accident waiting to happen and I sometimes wish I had the ability to go skiing too. But I will stick to ice skating and sledding for my winter activities and I will probably lay low on the tubing for now. I get myself into enough trouble in the winter without needing to add the concept of being launched into the air by an inflated rubber tube to my extensive list of winter mishaps and accomplishments.
